Meetings in Europe

Bristol University

Visits were paid to Bristol University which is in charge of "Bristol is Open(BIO)", a smart city project of the UK, and the International Regions Benchmarking Consortium held in Stockholm where we had information exchange meetings with organizations from industry, academia and government in Europe.

We had a information exchange meeting with Bristol University on October 10th(Mon), 2016.
They are developing an ICT platform called City OS, which is targeted for the social systems as we are doing in the COI project.
Professor Dimitra Simeonidou, Director of Performance Network Group of Bristol University is in charge of the project in which they are building wired and wireless high speed networks managed with SDN(Software-Defined Networking) in the city. SDN is a function to flexibly control networks with software which can be used for communication in the city. We had discussions on developments of automated driving and energy related applications utilizing the communication platform. In addition we introduced the Urban OS of Kyushu University and had discussions on the collaboration among industry-academia-government, establishment of the business model and agendas for practical application.

After the meeting we took a look at Bristol Data Dome in the city.
The Data Dome is a facility which has a new visual system in a renovated planetarium so that many kinds of big data are visualized.
In the spherical shaped room we can see the 3 dimensional images of the data from Bristol city or the environmental big data in the world.
The images are developed by a venture company in Bristol which is an example of the collaboration among industry-academia-government.
