[News] The University of Tokyo COI Satellite Workshop

On December 22, 2020, from 1:00 pm, The University of Tokyo COI Satellite will host a workshop entitled “Innovation in Energy Systems: The global trend towards decarbonization and the prospects for electricity and hydrogen.”
Please see below for details.

Global momentum towards a decarbonized society is growing with 77 countries already having declared their intention to achieve a decarbonized society by 2050, as announced by the Japanese Prime Minister Kan in his policy speech.

On the other hand, in Japan, with the massive introduction of renewable power sources (especially solar), the electricity system and thus the entire energy system is undergoing a major transition.

There has already been output curbs on solar power generation, including in the Kyushu Electric Power District. Low carbon and decarbonized energy systems are fundamentally different, and the technological and economic barriers to decarbonize are extremely high. In order to achieve this goal, we need the collective wisdom of mankind.

In this workshop, we will look at some promising innovations in the energy system and consider measures that will contribute to stabilization of the power system in the era of mass adoption of renewable power sources.
